Blazer field hockey in mid-season slump

SEPT 25, CANNON ROAD ELEMENTARY—

The field hockey team suffered a disappointing 7-0 loss to Springbrook today. Despite countless attempts to send the ball down the field, the Blazers were unable to match the scoring power of the Blue Devils.

The Blazer offense was repeatedly pushed out of scoring territory by the Blue Devils' defense. Offender Julia Penn played aggressively with numerous break-aways during the first half of the game, but she was unable to capitalize on the runs. The Blair defense played smart with strong drives that thwarted numerous Springbrook attacks. But the team lost its intensity during corner penalties, enabling the Blue Devils to score a majority of their goals.

Blair once again lacked the offensive prowess of junior Christina Do, who was injured in last week's game against Seneca Valley, which the Blazers also lost 7-0. Freshman Jessie Hallberin was promoted to varsity last minute to fill the gap left by Do, who is expected to be out of play for at least two weeks.

Coach Amy Miller is looking forward to a fresh start at Blair's next game, Oct 30 against Wheaton. "The long weekend really took a toll on the team," she said. "We want to start over on Tuesday and take the season back."
