A bomb threat prompted the evacuation of all Prince George's County public schools on the afternoon of April 20.

An anonymous call to 911 at 1:54 p.m. stated that bombs would go off in three undefined schools in PG County at 3:00 p.m. unless the caller received $1 million, authorities said.

Police contacted the PG County school system and all schools were evacuated around 2:50 p.m. According to Lynn McCawley, a school-system spokeswoman, most schools had already been dismissed by then.

All after-school and evening activities scheduled were canceled with the exception of outdoor sporting events that were already in progress, which were allowed to continue as scheduled.

According to Corporal Joe Merkel, a county-police spokesman, police and school-security officers found no suspicious objects during their search.

Prince George's County schools were scheduled to open on time today, McCawley said.
