Former Blair student David Willemstijn, who was seriously injured in a Feb 20 car crash, awoke from his coma and has been transferred to the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C, friends said.

Willemstijn, who dropped out of Blair prior to this school year, which would have been his senior year, is undergoing "very rigorous" physical, occupational and speech therapy, according to senior Ryan
Keach, a friend who visited Willemstijn last week.

Senior Mehran Mizani, another friend who visited Willemstijn, said Willemstijn is making a "gradual comeback" but does not yet have full mobility. Mizani remains "optimistic" that Willemstijn's condition will improve.

On Mar 18, Willemstijn was discharged from Suburban Hospital, where Willemstijn was treated after the crash, according to Suburban Hospital patient information.
