Blair underclassmen encouraged to apply for position

High-school students, particularly freshmen and sophomores, are encouraged to apply to serve as youth member on the Commission on Children and Youth. The term would begin this September and end in June of next year.

Members would be required to attend mandatory meetings once a month (usually held every second Wednesday in each month) from about 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Students that are involved in many extracurricular activities are discouraged from applying, as membership will consume a lot of their time.

According to the news release, students interested in applying should be responsible, express an interest in youth issues and advocacy, be willing to commit to the Commission and demonstrate good people skills. Students from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Because the Commission prefers to have members representing various geographic locations, the County Executive usually does not appoint more than one student from each high school. All applications are completed with an interview.

For more information on this program, contact Debra Rosenberg, the Staff Liaison of Commission on Children and Youth, at 401 Fleet Street, Rockville, MD 20850, or at 240-777-1110. She can also be reached via email at debra.rosenberg@montgomerycountymd.gov
