Do you think the school's hat policy is fair?

"I don't think the hat policy is fair. I don't even wear hats but I think I should have the right to. It's another article of clothing, just another way to express your self. And saying that it promotes gang violence is ridiculous because gangs can just all wear the same shirt or jean jacket and I think it would be pretty hard to ban the wearing of shirts."
~freshmen Annie Denenberg

"No, I do not think that the policies for hats in this school are fair because people like to match their headgear collection with their clothing and the school is preventing that."
~freshmen Sierra Coleman

"I think the school's policy on wearing hats is not right. People should be able to wear whatever they want to wear because there expressing themselves threw what they wear. I myself like to wear hats but I can't because of the stupid school policy. In my opinion they should change the policy and find out from the kids what they like to wear and base the policy on that."
~freshmen Dani McClay

"I believe that Blair's hat policy is unfair. No one controls what we wear was long as it's not obscene so we should be able to wear whatever headgear we want to. My friends from other schools are all allowed to wear hats, so I don't see why Blair should be an exception. Hats and other headgear can even be useful, such as to hide a bad hair day. Although I personally don't wear hats, I would feel more comfortable if the school did not control all the minute details of our lives."
~sophomore Alice Li

"The current hat policy seems to be that no hats are allowed in the building. Is this a respect issue? Security? Either way it doesn't make much sense to me. Most people take their hats off when they get inside, but for those who don't, does it really make much of a difference? It seems to be one more thing you constantly dodge security guards for. Personally, I believe teachers can decided whether or not they allow hats in the classroom, but to the school, it doesn't matter."
~sophomore Roxana Marquez

"I think Blair's hat policy is unfair because it doesn't allow students to wear something they bought. Teachers should be more concerned with students that have weapons than students with hats."
-junior Kevin Mendoza

"I think that the hat policy is not good. Students should be able to wear hats because it part of their outfit. Blair should have HAT days because hats don't bother teachers. Hats should be taken away only if the student is messing with the hat and interrupting."
-junior Byron Martinez

"I think the school's hat policy is not fair.I think we should be allowed to wear our hats during lunch, not during classes."
~sophomore Armando Blanco

"I don't think it is fair because if there is people with green, purple, orange, blue hair why is it different from wearing hats? Besides none of them look good. And I think that whether or not you want to wear a hat is your choice. "
~sophomore Vanessa Pineda

"The school's hat policy is not fair in my opinion. I think that hats should be allowed because if the school has a policy that does not allow you to wear
hats that's the first thing you are going to do. Maybe if the hat policy was abolished then hats wouldn't be such a huge problem. Plus we shouldn't be denied the right to wear what we want to wear."
~sophomore Jackie Arroyo

"I think that the school's hat policy is unfair. I think so because there is no reason why we shouldn't have them on. They haven't been proven to have any effect on learning conditions therefore there is no reason we shouldn't be able to wear them."
~sophomore Darius Kellman

"The school's hat policy is unfair because wearing a hat has nothing to do with school. How is it a distraction, it's only a hat? Nine times out of 10 a person probably has a bad hair day."
~sophomore Markeisha Sams

"I don't think the hat policy in Blair is fair to the student body. I understand that the reason for the policy is to reduce gang activities and it shows respect, but gang members can wear other clothing to represent themselves. Showing respect by taking your hat off is an old tradition and we should move on. That's why I think we should take away the hat
policy."
~junior Abnet Shiferaw

"I don't think the school's hat policy is fair because it is pointless nowadays. Not being able to wear a hat is the same as wearing uniforms. It removes individualism and turns the school into more of a prison. It also makes the kids feel more like robots and less like human beings. This is why hats should be allowed in schools."
~freshmen Michael Stamm

"The school's hat policy is somewhat unfair because I think people should practice their own discretion on what they wear. Students in high school are old enough to decide what they personally feel is right to wear.In the world outside Blair walls students are allowed to wear whatever they want and must simply accept the consequences. However, I also feel that there are
larger issues at Blair of greater importance than the hat policy. It would be nice if people could wear hats and what they want to wear all the time, but it's just not that big a deal."
~senior Cindy Keyser

"I think that the school policy on not being able towear hats is unfair because what if you're having a bad hair day? Or what if you want to wear the hat
because it matches with your outfit? That's not fair that the teachers can just say take off your hat since they don't know anything about why the student is
wearing the hat. And it's also unfair that we can't wear the hats because what is the big deal of wearing a hat it's not hurting anybody to wear a hat."
~sophomore Angel Martin

"I think Blair's hat policy is unfair. The reason I think it is unfair is because sometimes people have bad hair days and need something to cover their head. Some people like wearing hats because they want to look cool. I don't think the hat policy is fair because there is no one being harmed. If the school
gets rid of the hat policy that would make the school a more open school instead of a school where everything is not allowed."
~sophomore James Gondor

"The hat policy at Blair and all public school is unfair. It is carried over from an old system where women had to wear hats outdoors and men couldn't wear hats indoors. This is obsolete now! There is no reason to occupy security staff with taking people's hats off and distracting them from other problems."
~freshmen Tony Burnetti

"Many students at Blair feel that the hat policy at Blair is unfair. Students feel that the one of the only reasons why they would want to wear a hat in school is for fashion. People have different opinions about why students would wear hats, including gang activity and showing support to certain groups, but if the topic is really thought out and discussed thoroughly, hats are not the reason gang activity is going on and it is also not a supporting factor because if that were true, shirts, pants and even shoes would be exactly the same way. Bandanas could be a factor but hats are completely harmless and they are for mainly fashion reasons. Basically to match or look good for/with clothes and outfits wore by students. Some people say that fashion shouldn't be a factor in school because students come to school to lean. Fashion is a very important factor in the lives of students because it play a big role in their self-esteem. This could affect the levels of wanting to learn more and be more involved in what they are doing at school because of the level of confidence and how the students feel about themselves and how they interact with other things and people. This is why I feel that the hat policy of Blair should be more thought of and considered to be changed by the enforcers. Thanks for showing concern."
~junior Clarence Turner

"I don't believe that Blair's hat policy is fair because by students or even teachers' wearing hats it shows expression. If you wore a hat in the school they take it. I don't believe that, that is fair because you will never see it again if you have to wait a certain period of time. Like when I was in the ninth grade a security person took my hat, scarf and he took my hoodie and he told to come get in three days. I came back and he going to say he lost it, I was really upset about that."
~junior Alycia Stover

"I think that the hat policy is somewhat not fair. I think that people should be allowed to wear hats because in most cases that's how they express themselves. I also think that if the hat had some kind of profane language or pictures then it should be confiscated. I think that the hat rule is kind of stupid and I don't see the point in it! Another reason why I think it's unfair because most females have bad hair days and they need a hat, if the females have their ID's then they should be able to wear them because people do have bad hair days."
~sophomore Janaye Lamadine

"I find Blair's hat policy unfair. We should be able to wear hats whenever we feel like it. Hats are a way that people can express themselves. In conclusion, if the hat does not interfere with the learning process and is appropriate, then it should be allowed to be worn."
~sophomore Austin Fang
