Sophomores, juniors and seniors are invited to write an essay discussing why Black History Month is important. There will be cash prizes for students and a "Winner's Reception" in the NBC4 TV Station in February.

The contest began November 17 and ends January 9. The essay must be no more than 1000 words long and must be sent with application sheets available in the English Office as well as at the front desk at WHUR-FM radio station. Further requirements are listed on the back of the application.

The purpose of the contest is to have students contemplate and enjoy Black History Month as well as allow students to express their perception of the month.
