Blair's Field Hockey loses to Quince Orchard, 3-1
September 17, Blair's field hockey team lost to the Quince Orchard Cougars, 3-1 in their second home game.
Quince Orchard's defense abruptly refuted Blair's attempts in the first half. To add to the wounds, Quince Orchard scored in the last four minutes of the first half. Senior Attack Abby Celotto, describes the reason for the lack of goals in the first half. "They beat us to the ball," Celotto said. "They also blocked our shots."
In the second half, defender Jessie Proctor scored Blair its first and only point through a penalty shot, making the score then 2-1. Senior attack/link Amy Nguyen says that Proctor's shot gave Blair hope for a victory. "When Jessie scored, we thought we could win this," she said.
Blair's optimism fell when Quince Orchard scored their third goal in the last six minutes of the game. Despite that, Blair gave their best effort to the last second of the game, according to Nguyen. "As a team,we really tried," she explained. "We had a lot of heart."
Besides Quince Orchard, Whitman is another competitive field hockey team that Blair will have to face. Blair plays Whitman October 1, at Whitman. Coach Amy Miller says that she believes that Whitman is the most competitive team in the league. Regardless, Miller says Blair is ready to compete with any team in the league. "We can measure up to any team out there," she said.
The team's current record is 1-3-0. Blair plays at Damascus September 19, at 5 p.m.
