Energizing beats refresh Blazers for second quarter

It's the beginning of the second quarter and an agonizing three weeks until Thanksgiving weekend. With so much work to do, Blazers are stuck in a stressful, school-oriented mindset. Even though school is far from over, these upbeat tracks will give Blazers something to celebrate as they wait for the holiday season!

"We R Who We R" – Ke$ha
After the success of her debut album "Animal," Ke$ha continues to dominate the pop genre with her new album "Cannibal." In this song, the glitter diva sings about partying, dancing and "running this town just like a club," as she often does in her other songs. This single features rapping similar to that in "TiK ToK," which first earned Ke$ha attention. Excessive electronic processing detracts from the quality of Ke$ha's raw voice, but the artist's musical stuttering in empowering lyrics like "You know we're superstars" will have listeners "dancing like [they're] dumb."

"Uncharted" - Sara Bareilles
Singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles first reached mainstream success in 2007 with her hit single, "Love Song." In her latest album, "Kaleidoscope Heart," Bareilles is back with her charming contralto vocals. Bareilles' soulful vocals mixed with strong piano melodies, upbeat tempos and distinctive rhythms make this song simply irresistible.

"Love Like Woe" - The Ready Set
Electronica pop artist The Ready Set features the dance track "Love Like Woe" in his fourth studio album "I'm Alive, I'm Dreaming." The song's fast beats and generic male vocals might not be completely original in the pop genre, but the song's catchy melody will make this single an instant hit on the dance floor.

"Check It Out (Main Radio Mix)" – will.i.am & Nicki Minaj
Hip hop artists Nicki Minaj and mogul will.i.am join forces in this fun single off of Minaj's upcoming album "Pink Friday," which will be released in November. "Check It Out" is a fresh, modern take on the 1979 The Buggles' hit "Video Killed the Radio Star," and the accompanying Korean television themed music video further showcases Minaj and will.i.am's creativity. The song's fast beat and futuristic sound sets it apart from other mediocre songs in the hip hop genre.

"Please Don't Go" - Mike Posner
Newcomer Mike Posner released his debut album, "31 Minutes to Takeoff" in August 2010. Posner's first single, "Cooler Than Me" reached the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10. "Please Don't Go" features synthetic beats, making it more mainstream than "Cooler Than Me," yet Posner's smooth vocals make "Please Don't Go" perfectly refreshing for top-down, wind-in-the-hair cruisin' in the car.

"If I Die Young" – The Band Perry
Country group The Band Perry, composed of siblings Kimberly, Reid and Neil Perry, released their self-titled debut album in October, which includes the single "If I Die Young." Kimberly's lead vocals are soothing and sweet, like a mature version of Taylor Swift's voice. Mid-tempo drum beats and acoustic guitar instrumentals complement Kimberly's voice as she sings of living life with no regrets. The song establishes a feel good mood and will put smiles on audiences' faces.
