Dressing it up
For girls, try a sweater dress that has a cowl neckline. If the dress doesn't have a cowl neckline, wear an infinity scarf to mimic the textured look. Both the cowl neckline and scarf will make for a chic outfit. If the dress isn't too form fitting, wearing a belt is an easy way to compliment your body shape. Finish this look with tights or leggings and knee-high boots.
For guys, dressing up doesn't necessarily mean grabbing a tux and bow tie. Wearing a white, powder blue or subtle plaid dress shirt underneath a dark colored sweater is an easy combination that will give off the European fashion model vibe. If you want to experiment with some brighter colored sweaters, it's best to have a white dress shirt underneath in order to avoid any possible color clashes. This outfit looks best with a crewneck or v-neck sweater. If you decide to wear a v-neck, you can choose to wear a classy tie to top it off. For a more casual dress look, wear dark jeans, and for a more sophisticated look, wear khakis.
Timeless Patterns
Cable knit sweaters come in a variety of subtle, elegant, simple and classic designs. For both girls and guys, the well-fitted turtleneck style looks great, but if it doesn't compliment your face shape, the crew neck style looks just as good. For girls, you can also choose to wear a slightly oversized cable knit sweater with leggings and lace up ankle boots.
The Fair Isle pattern occurs more frequently as the days get closer to Christmas. The pattern itself may be somewhat cluttered because the designs can be very intricate and appear busy. A good way to balance the design is by wearing the Fair Isle pattern on a cardigan. And yes, guys can wear cardigans as well as girls. Lean towards neutral colored and simple tops to wear underneath so it doesn't draw attention away from the cardigan.
Bolder Options
However, if you're feeling really daring, perhaps the infamous ugly Christmas sweater is your calling. As long as you have the right attitude, you can pull it off. If the sweater is a little too embarrassing to wear to school, consider hosting or attending an ugly Christmas sweater party so you can be amongst other ugly sweater wearers while drinking eggnog, making S'mores and sipping hot cocoa.
Whether you're dressing to impress or just looking to have a good time, enjoy the sweater weather while it lasts. Happy sweater hunting Blazers!
