SilverStyle: Toasty toes

SilverStyle is a weekly blog focusing on fashion and beauty both in and outside of Blair. Come back next Wednesday for the next edition of SilverStyle.

We're pushing straight on through winter and the chilly days literally make you shiver in your boots. We've all heard it: heat escapes from your body through your head and feet. Fashionistas have talked about cute hats to keep your head warm, but what about the best socks and tights to keep those feet warm? Here are some suggestions to stay both toasty and trendy from your feet up.

Fuzzy Socks

Fuzzy socks are the epitome of cozy. The material feels soft, like a small cat rubbing against you, and they come in great colors and patterns. They are perfect for sliding around the house in or using as an extra layer of warmth underneath heaps of blankets. You can even buy them wrapped in cool shapes, scented, or sporting toe holes (like gloves for your feet). For maximum warmth and comfort, fuzzy is the way to go.

Knee High Socks

Knee high socks not only warm your feet, but also, if stretched out to their full potential, can serve as an extra layer for your entire legs. They come in all sorts of funky patterns and colors. They can be worn under pants, just for warmth. However, the more daring at heart will pull them on over leggings and scrunch them down over boots so that the patterns are on display in their full glory. Knee-highs can also be worn with skirts or dresses in place of tights. This strategy is a win-win – you can show off quirky style without the hassle of pulling on tights.

Patterned Tights

Shove regular nude tights to the back of the closet and get patterned tights instead. Last year, colored tights were the craze, but patterned hosiery is in this time around. Add some excitement and character to the typical pencil skirt and cardigan look to make a statement and draw attention to your unique taste in prints. Geometric and tribal patterns are the way to go, but be sure not to mix the color trend with the pattern trend – keep with neutral colors if you're wearing patterned tights to keep it classy. Wool Tights

If wool sweaters keep our torso warm, why not keep our legs warm with wool tights? Regular hosiery does little to keep in the heat, but wool tights keep you even warmer than cotton leggings do while still looking formal enough to wear with that cute skirt or dress. Wool tights come in solids or patterns, just like any other tights, though it is safer to stay away from extremely bright colors. They can even be worn under pants as long underwear on a really cold day. A pair of wool tights during the winter is a must-have.

Winter is not getting any warmer, so be sure to shop for socks and tights to trap the heat in. If your feet are toasty, the rest of your body will feel cozy too!
