The brand-new Strathmore Music Center at Strathmore Hall will open this Saturday, Feb. 5.

The new addition to the 11-acre complex represents the final payoff from a $200 million county investment meant for major building projects. The money has paid for, among other things, a conference center in White Flint, a jail in Clarksburg and the transformation of downtown Silver Spring. The $100 million, 1,976-seat music hall opens to the public Saturday evening. The inaugural concert will feature the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

Strathmore officials stressed that prices for tickets at the music center will not discriminate, as no show should exceed a ticket price of $78.

"You should feel comfortable whether you ever came to the orchestra, whether you speak English or don't, whether you are from up county, down county,” said Eliot Pfanstiehl, President and Chief Executive of the Strathmore Hall Foundation, as quoted in the Post article.

Strathmore Hall is located at 10701 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda, MD 20852-3324. For tickets, call 301-581-5100 or for more information, visit its web site at strathmore.org.
