Students to have input on Board policies

The Montgomery County Board of Education (BOE) recently recognized the Student Advisory Committee and the Student Member of the Board (SMOB) as legitimate advisory panels that will voice student concerns on Board policies and issues.

Members of the BOE recently heard from student government leaders and agreed that a panel of students is needed to provide input on policy decisions.

SGA President Denise Sylla said it is hard to tell if the new committee will make a difference because "there's always going to be adults who have no faith in students." She hopes that their input will have an impact on BOE policies because she is confident that the students involved are "eloquent and intelligent" and are very capable.

The Board of Education's mission is to ensure that students attending public schools receive a quality education.
