Trick-or-treat Caramel Corn

A fun snack for all ages


Caramel corn is a simple snack that is great for any Halloween party. The treat is easy to make and fun to nibble on. The snack is not only colorful but yummy and is a great addition to a table full of enticing food.

Makes 26 servings

Kitchenware:
- 2-quart saucepan
- Spatula
- Measuring spoons
- Large mixing bowl


Ingredients:
- 16 cups plain popped popcorn
- 5 cups miniature pretzels
- 2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 cup butter
- 1/2 cup dark corn syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup salted peanuts
- 1 cup candy-coated milk chocolate pieces
- 1 cup candy corn

Preparation:



1.Heat oven to 200°F

2.Combine popcorn and pretzels in a large roasting pan and set aside

3.Combine brown sugar, butter, corn syrup and salt in a 2-quart saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture comes to a full boil (18 to 20 minutes)

4.Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until thermometer reaches 238°F (4 to 6 minutes)

5.Remove from heat and stir in the baking soda

6.Pour mixture over popcorn and pretzels and then sprinkle peanuts over popcorn mixture

7.Stir until all of the popcorn is coated

8.Bake for 20 minutes and occasionally stir

9.Continue baking for 20 minutes and stir in chocolate pieces and candy corn

10.Continue baking for 5 minutes and then quickly spread the mixture onto waxed paper to cool

11.Store in tightly covered container until completely cooled
