Freshman and sophomore gather three awards
Two Blazers earned three awards at the Montgomery County History Day competition, held on March 25 at Julius West Middle School in Rockville.
Freshman Melissa Mergner won in the Senior Individual Documentary category for her work on "Woody Guthrie: Spokesperson for the Common Man," under the guidance of U.S. History teacher George Vlasits.
Sophomore Anne Preston and two Richard Montgomery High School students won in the Senior Group Documentary category for their work, "Dorothea Dix: Forgotten Samaritan." Preston and her group also won a special prize for "Women's History given by the Business and Professional Women."
The Montgomery County History Day competition is the precursor to the National History Day competition.
