Blair easily defeats Rockville in two games

The girls' volleyball team posted an impressive victory over Rockville High School at home on September 17, allowing only 8 points in their two game victory. The Blazers remain undefeated after four games.

Blair played extremely solid throughout the first game, not allowing any points and rarely giving up serve, winning 15-0. Junior Amanda Hsiung started the game on the right note, serving four straight points, including two aces, and showcasing her jump serve. She was supported by solid setting, defense and effective spikes from junior Carey Bartlett and junior Simone Viger.

In the second game the Blazers had some trouble with sets, serves and returns. Despite a brief Ram's comeback, the Blazers still overmatched their opponent and won 15-8.
Bartlett had an excellent night, hitting almost un-returnable spikes from all over the floor. Senior Debby Man also played well, serving out the first game with hard, accurate hits.

Rockville helped the Blazers out, struggling with routine serves, returns and spikes. The Rams also had a hard time coming up with digs and setting the ball accurately. Rockville's main problem was a lack of communication. They allowed many balls to drop to the floor untouched.

Just the opposite was true for Blair, which, except at the end of the second game, showed great communication skills. Coach Ann Garrison cites this as one of the team's major strengths. "[My players] know where they are supposed to be and if someone is not there then one of their teammates will help them out," she said.
