The following is a opinion by Adam Yalowitz, who is the Co-President of the Student Democrats Association. It has not been edited by Silver Chips Online.

John Kerry has dedicated his life to serve America. He fought valiantly in Vietnam earning a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts. He has served with distinction in the United States Senate. As President, John Kerry will lead the American people to a better future.

John Kerry has a plan to provide affordable and high-quality healthcare to 95% of Americans, including all children. Currently, an estimated 44 million Americans are uninsured. The Bush administration has failed to put forth a coherent plan to prevent skyrocketing healthcare premiums and prescription drug prices. As President, Kerry will work to cut family health insurance premiums by up to $1000, and lower drug prices for all Americans by allowing the safe importation of prescription medicines from Canada. John Kerry believes that a solution to the growing healthcare crisis is necessary to maintain a safe and strong America.

During Bush's presidency, 1.6 million jobs have been lost in the private sector. Well-paying jobs are leaving America and going overseas, and newly unemployed Americans are left fighting desperately for lower paying jobs. The unemployment rate has risen 37 percent while Bush has been in office, and over 8.1 million Americans are unemployed. John Kerry has a plan to strengthen the middle class by creating good jobs and investing in the jobs of tomorrow. Kerry would create a New Job Tax Credit for expanding manufacturing companies, and end tax breaks for companies that move jobs overseas.

George W. Bush has chosen tax cuts for the rich over secure Social Security benefits for millions of working Americans. John Kerry understands that 45 million Americans depend on Social Security. Without Social Security, the poverty rate for seniors would rise from 10.4 percent to around 50 percent.

John Kerry knows that to lead a War on Terror, America must work cooperatively with our allies. America cannot afford to lead a bullheaded foreign policy that leaves American troops stranded in the Middle East with virtually no allies, making up almost 90% of the troops in Iraq and suffering around 90% of the casualties. George W. Bush led America to war in Iraq without a clear plan. John Kerry will internationalize the security and reconstruction efforts in Iraq by creating a key role for NATO.

Bush has cut short funding of his own No Child Left Behind by $27 billion dollars. John Kerry recognizes that a quality public education is the cornerstone of a successful democracy. All Americans should be given the opportunity to succeed. Kerry will create an Education Trust Fund to ensure America's educational system is properly funded, and all students can meet high expectations.

The environment has suffered enormously under the Bush administration. Bush has allowed corporate polluters to rewrite the nation's environmental regulations. John Kerry believes that Americans have the right to a clean, fresh and beautiful America, safe from pollution. In addition, Kerry will work to find clean energy alternatives, reducing America's dependence on foreign oil.

John Kerry embodies all the characteristics of an outstanding President. His honor, patriotism, and strong moral values are evident throughout his military service and career in the United States Senate. As President, John Kerry will continue to serve America and help all Americans have the opportunity to live the American dream.
