Missing several key players, the boys' lacrosse team's perfect season record was on the line against Einstein High School. However, with an impressive 12-1 blowout, Blair proved that its 4-0 start was no fluke.
Junior Justin Craver scored the first goal of the game, putting one past the goalkeeper in the first minute of regulation. After a goal from senior Brian Matheron, Einstein countered with a goal of its own.
The goal, Einstein's only score of the game, came midway through the first quarter. Sophomore Josh Gottlieb-Miller put an end to the team's momentum, however, as he scored three consecutive goals to end the first quarter with Blair on top 5-1.
In the remaining three periods, the game belonged to Blair. The strong defensive line, led by juniors Lincoln Fischer, Ben Field-Pickering and Nino Tran, contained the Einstein attack, as the Blazers widened the gap between the two teams.
In the next twenty four minutes, goals from seniors David Chachere, Peter Cirincione, Matheron, junior Noah Pierce, sophomore Kyle Cohen and freshman Martin Gilbert increased Blair's lead to an insurmountable 11-1.
Using the lead as an opportunity to test many of the program's younger, less experienced players, Blair scored only one goal in the last quarter, Craver's second of the game. The Blazers' defense was effective, however, and Einstein was held scoreless throughout the period.
Einstein's scoring drought, which lasted more than forty minutes, was due in large part to the play of junior goalkeeper Ben Schwengels, who was credited with twelve saves. The passing of senior Andrew Ginsberg, the program's most prolific goal scorer, was also important. Ginsberg had four assists in the game.
