Wootton wipes out playoff hopes for girls' bball

Playing like there was no tomorrow, the girls' basketball team stepped up their game against Wootton High School in the first round of the playoffs. Unfortunately, the young squad faltered in the second half and lost, 54-38, ending their season with a 9-14 record.

At the start of the game, the Blazers traded baskets with Wootton, ending the first quarter up by one point, 12-11. The first quarter lead was unusual for Blair, who has lost most of their first quarters this season.

From there, Blair's lead declined steadily throughout the remainder of the game. Down by four points after halftime, the Blazers were outscored 28-16 by the Patriots in the second half, sealing their fate.

Blair's greatest offensive producers were their starting post players, sophomore Caroline Kuttner and senior Erin Ivey. The dynamic duo combined for 19 of the team's total points and were a force to be reckoned with on the boards.

Before the game began, the Blazers knew what they had to do to win the game and continue their season. "We just had to play smart defense and contain their point guard," said Kuttner. "But no one stepped up and did it."
