Sinclair twins take top two spots

Oct 25 — GAITHERSBURG HIGH SCHOOL

The Blair cross-country team began its postseason with a strong showing at the county meet at Gaithersburg High School. The girls finished ninth out of nineteen, and the boys finished tenth out of twenty-two.

Freshmen Halsey and Ashlyn Sinclair took first and second place with times of 18:45 and 18:53 respectively. Halsey's time tied the course record. Michele Levy, of Wootton High School, the only girl to beat the Sinclairs this year, finished in fourth.

Seniors Matt Sheldon and Esey Kidane paced the Blazers to 10th place, with Sheldon finishing 17th overall with a time of 17:00, and Kidane finishing 34th overall with a time of 17:24. Josh Uzzell, Anthony Gutierrez, and Zach Podhorzer rounded out the top five.
Kidane, who suffered with shin splints during the run, performed well, considering that he stopped midway through the race to take off his shoes. He finished the last two miles of the race without shoes.

Coach Carl Lewin was pleased with his team performance. "A lot of my kids PR'ed [ran their personal record] today. As a coach, I am proud of that."

The meet consisted of teams from all four divisions of Montgomery County cross-country. Blair, a division two team, placed well against tough competition.

The Regional Meet will be at the Rockville Civic Center on October 30, 2003
