Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) Education Enhancement Divisio

LAYC's Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) aims to give "career exploration opportunities" to 14 and 15 year olds. Students will act as instructor assistants and hall monitors. They will also help prepare curriculum and lesson plans and perform other administrative tasks, such as arranging fieldtrips, guest speakers and career site visits. Students must make a full commitment during the nine weeks of the instruction. In addition to the nine weeks, students must attend a mandatory training and orientation week as well as a "wrap-up" week. Salary is 10 to 12 dollars per hour.

Hours:
The Summer Youth Employment Program runs from June 16, 2008 to August 22, 2008. Daily hours are 12:30 p.m. 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Qualifications:
LAYC is looking for high school seniors that are 17 or 18 years old. Students should have experience working with at-risk youths and should be "committed to positive youth development." Being bilingual is preferred but not necessary.
