Varsity girls' tennis falls to Walt Whitman

The Blair girls' varsity tennis team (4-2) struggled against the Whitman Vikings (4-2), a tough Division-I team, and won only one of the seven matches. The Blazers fought hard, but a lack of consistency helped the Vikings come away with a strong victory.

Blazers defeat Poolesville in four sets

Though the score was tight many times during the game and the Blazers (9 - 3) lost the second set, they pushed through and won the final two sets after scoring several last minute points. Blair won the first set 25-16, the second 25-23, and the fourth 26-24. Poolesville won the third set 25-23.


Blair boys lacrosse crushes Magruder

The Montgomery Blair Blazers (5-4) earned a huge win against the Magruder Colonels (4-7) at home on Wednesday night. The Blazers played well from the start, putting pressure on the Magruder defense and capitalizing on turnovers. Magruder kept the game close and competitive in the first half, but Blair's offense was relentless in the second half, winning countless faceoffs, dominating possession and getting shots at every opportunity to win an important game.


Blair baseball falls short against Quince Orchard

Despite a late comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Blair Blazers (5-5) could not recover from an early deficit given up to the Quince Orchard Cougars (5-3-1). Throughout the game, strong pitching by the Cougars and fielding miscues by the Blazers prevented Blair from making up ground and resulted in a 7-2 Blazer loss.

Indoor track team caps season by sending six to states

Blair's indoor track team finished its season in impressive fashion, as 800m runner Morgan Casey, 1600m runner Josephine Brane-Wright and the girls 4x400m relay team took third, sixth and seventh at the 4A State Championship meet, respectively. Pole vaulter Deeya Garg also went to states as the Blazers' sixth qualifier.


Boys' basketball wins first round playoff game

The Montgomery Blair Blazers (13-9), the four seed in the playoffs, beat the five seed Bethesda Chevy-Chase Barons (10-14) by a score of 48-43 on Friday evening to advance to the regional quarterfinals against Richard Montgomery. The Blazers were able to remain calm under pressure and eke out a good win.


Girls' basketball comes up short in playoffs

In a disappointing end to the season, the Blazers (13-9) lost to the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Barons (14-6) by a score of 52-37. The Barons gained a lead early in the game and, although that lead fluctuated, the Blazers were never able to come back.


Blazers say yes to competing at the next level

On Nov. 15 senior Madison Waechter committed to the University of Wisconsin-Madison and signed the letter of intent to officially join their swim team. Waechter finally made the decision to commit after considering offers from three different schools. "I loved everything about the school: the academics, the location and the swim team had a great atmosphere," she said.


Blair girls' basketball destroys Northwood 43-28

The Blair Blazers' girls' basketball team (12-5) stole the win against the Northwood Gladiators (4-13) on Tuesday night after a tight first half. However, Blair pulled through during the second half and triumphed over Northwood, coming away with the 43-28 win.


Blair varsity boys basketball wins against Clarksburg

Blair's varsity boys' basketball team won 56-50 against Clarksburg on Friday night. Sophomore forward Ethan Ellis scored 13 points and senior center Julius Cobb dunked twice and scored 21 points.


Blazers demolish Northwood

The Blair boys' basketball team (9-8) flexed its muscles against the Northwood Gladiators (2-17) on Tuesday. With a full-court, man-to-man defense throughout the game, the Blazers put pressure on Northwood from the beginning and took advantage of opportunities on offense. After gaining a lead in the first quarter, Blair pulled ahead significantly and never looked back.


Blair wrestling beats Rockville on senior night

The Blair Blazers (9-0-4) beat the Rockville Rams (11-3-3) by a score of 38-30 during Saturday's senior night. Blair got out to a big lead early but had to fight hard to hang on in the waning matches. The team celebrated its graduating seniors, captain Nauman Funyas and wrestlers Tommy Norris and Zhaxi Zerong.


Boys' basketball is taken down by Magruder

The Blair Blazers' boys' basketball team (7-8) threw different defensive looks at their opponents, but could not keep up with the Magruder Colonels' (11-6) accuracy from behind the three point arc. Even a big third quarter comeback that reeled the Colonels' lead to just three points could not keep the Blazers out of the loss column with a 64-55 loss.


Blair girls' basketball loses in final seconds

The Blair Blazers (10-5) lost to the Magruder Colonels (5-12) 45-44 in the final seconds of Tuesday's girls basketball game. Blair got off to a great start, earning a 27-8 lead through superior physicality and rebounding in the first half, but numerous turnovers in the second half let the Colonels back into the game.


Blair boys' basketball suffers tough 59-52 loss

The Blair Blazers (7-6) lost to the Paint Branch Panthers (10-5) by a score of 59-52 on Wednesday night. Paint Branch had built a comfortable lead by halftime, but the Blazers nearly battled back to tie it before Paint Branch secured the victory. Missed free throws and countless turnovers cost Blair a chance at an upset over a Panthers' team that took down the locally ranked Kennedy Cavaliers last week.


Girls' basketball dismantles the Bengals 52-38

The Blazers girls basketball team (9-3) came back from a first half deficit to take down the Blake Bengals (2-13) on Monday night for their sixth consecutive win after a convincing victory over the Sherwood Warriors.


Blair boys' basketball team earns tight win against Sherwood

Neither team led by more than six points for the duration of the contest, and the game was tied at 46 with 30 seconds to play. However, the Blazers struck last on a tip-in by senior forward Julius Cobb with less than a second left on the clock to escape with a 48-46 win.
