When heaps of candy just won't do

It's that time of year again – and not just the end of the first quarter. I'm talking about the time of the year when everyone can stuff their faces with obscene amounts of candy (I can just feel the cavities coming in already). Yes, you've guessed it, Halloween! But, if candy isn't enough for you, SCO is providing some tasty recipes sure to fulfill all your Halloween-themed food cravings.

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

Kitchenware
-Knife
-Bowl
-Baking sheet
-Measuring spoon

Ingredients
-Pumpkin
-Vegetable oil
-Salt

Prep and Cooking

1.Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
2.Cut off the top of the pumpkin. (If you're carving a pumpkin for Halloween, you can use the same one).
3.Scoop out the insides of the pumpkin like you would for carving it and put the seeds in a bowl.
4.Pick out the largest pieces of pumpkin gunk (the stuff that isn't seeds) and throw them away.
5.Rinse the seeds off and mix them with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
6.Spread the seeds out on a baking sheet and season with salt.
7.Bake for 20-25 minutes, depending on how brown you want them to be.

Prep time: approximately 15 minutes. Serving size depends on size of pumpkin.

Candy Corn Cookies

Kitchenware
-Electric mixer
-Large bowl
-3 smaller bowls
-Small tin loaf pan
-Knife
-Spatula
-Cookie sheet
-Measuring cups and spoons
-Wax paper
-Rolling Pin

Ingredients
-1 egg
-3 tblsp milk
-1 stick of butter (softened)
-1 cup sugar
-2 tsp Vanilla
-2.5 cups flour
-2 tsp baking powder
-1/4 tsp salt
-Yellow and red food coloring
-Frosting and decorations (optional)

Prep and Cooking
Note: If you have your own sugar cookie recipe or a store-bought one skip to step six.

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2.Mix together the butter and sugar in the electric mixer (or by hand).
3.Add in the egg, milk and vanilla.
4.Mix the dry ingredients (sugar, flour, baking powder and salt) in a separate bowl. Gradually add it in to the other mixture and mix until they are completely blended.
5.Separate the dough evenly into 3 small bowls.
6.In one bowl, put a few drops of yellow food coloring and mix it until the dough is completely yellow. In the second bowl, put a few drops of yellow coloring and a few drops of red coloring to make orange. Do not put any coloring in the third bowl.
7.Place the uncolored dough in the tin loaf pan first. Next put the orange and then the yellow. Flip the tin upside down to remove the loaf.
8.Cut the loaf into sections about 1 inch think.
9.Take a section, roll it out and use the knife to cut out triangles. Repeat this with all of the sections.
10.Put wax paper on the cookie sheet and place the cookies on it. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
11.After the cookies are cooled, use frosting and sprinkles to decorate them, you can even put candy corn on top!

Prep time: approximately 30 minutes. Makes about three dozen cookies.

Ingredients
-Pudding (either from the powdered packet or the pre-made kind)
-Oreos
-Gummy worms

Prep and Cooking
1. Make the pudding if it is not already pre-made.
2. Crush the Oreos, they should somewhat resemble dirt. (The amount of Oreos used depends on the amount of pudding you have).
3. Sprinkle the crumbled Oreos on top of the pudding.
4. Stick gummy worms into the top of it and enjoy your edible terrarium!

Prep time: approximately 10 minutes. Serving size depends on the amount of pudding used.
