Deja vu in win for girls' lacrosse

On a rainy Wednesday night, the girls' lacrosse team beat the Paint Branch Panthers yet again in their first game of playoffs. The game was strangely reminiscent of their match against Paint Branch in the regular season which finished with the same score 15-9.

Despite an intense first half and consistently strong defensive play, Friday's game against BCC (10-10-1) put the Blazers (7-13) out of the playoffs with a final score of 56-41.

The Blazers (5-8-1) lost 4-0 to the Bethesda Chevy-Chase Barons (12-3) on Friday night, ending their season on a bittersweet note. Though the scoreboard may not have reflected it, the Blazers put up an unrelenting fight through the entirety of the game.

Boys' varsity soccer (6-3-4) played an exciting double-overtime game against Bethesda Chevy Chase (7-3-2) on Thursday, but lost on a shootout with a final score of 3-2.

The Blair Blazers (10-8) beat the Clarksburg Coyotes (6-12) in their first round playoff game 2-0. The win meant a lot for the Blazers who have struggled in the playoffs in recent years.

The Blazers (15-8) brought fire and intensity in their 2013 playoff debut against the Gaithersburg Trojans (6-17). Thus, it came as no surprise when senior captain Justin Kung dove headfirst into the scorers' table late in the fourth quarter to save a loose ball.

On Halloween, the Blair Blazers (9-5) lost 4-0 to the Blake Bengals (11-3) in the semifinals of the playoffs. The game was hard fought, but the Blazers couldn't keep up with the perennial powerhouse Bengals.

The scoring onslaught began early as the Blair varsity girls' lacrosse team (9-4) defeated the Einstein Titans (7-6) by a score of 18-4. Blair scored early, never giving Einstein a chance to rally back.


Girls' basketball falls to undefeated Gaithersburg

It was an emotional night for the Lady Blazers as they fell to the defending Maryland State champs, Gaithersburg, by a final score of 64-42. The Blazers held up against the undefeated Trojans for the first half of the game but fell apart in the third quarter and weren't able to bring it together.


Girls' varsity basketball overpowers Churchill

The girls' varsity basketball team (20-4) defeated the Churchill Bulldogs (19-5) by a score of 60-47 and will go on to play the undefeated Gaithersburg Trojans on Wednesday. Senior Johanna Lopez led all scorers with 25 points and senior Myla Sapp added 19 points in the win.

The girls' varsity basketball team destroyed the Bethesda-Chevy Chase (B-CC) Barons by a score of 60-40. Although the Blazers were down by five points at halftime, they were able to pull together as a team and get the win.


Barons burn girls' varsity volleyball

The Bethesda Chevy Chase Barons (BCC) (11-8) defeated the girls' volleyball team (5-12) in the first round of the playoffs. Although the Lady Blazers played well against a high caliber Baron squad, they fell in the end by final scores of 14-25, 15-25 and 17-25. Senior outside hitter Nika Lilley had nine kills.

The varsity girls' soccer team (10-3-2) was eliminated from the playoffs on Tuesday night in its second loss of the year to Quince Orchard (11-4). The three goals allowed were the most the Blazers had given up all season to a Montgomery County team


Springbrook squashes varsity field hockey

The varsity field hockey team (4-9) fell to the Springbrook Blue Devils (10-2) on Thursday evening, ending its season in a 6-1 loss. Blair failed to match up defensively and couldn't get anything going on the offensive end.
