VIDEO: Silver Spring in motion

by Tolu Omokehinde, Print Managing Photo Editor and Allison Daitch, Online Managing Editor
After two months of strenuous work, 80 hours of taking pictures in 20 degree weather, two near arrests and many sleepless nights, my hard work isn't going unnoticed. The beauty of the bustling life in Downtown Silver Spring is captured in the 7,123 photos I sequenced together into this seamless timelapse. From the glimmering lights of the ice rink to the changing traffic lights of a common intersection, life in the boisterous city of Silver Spring is perfectly encapsulated through the lens of my camera.

For the past two months, I took over Downtown Silver Spring. I spent almost 10 hours every weekend scoping out the city's best spots, set my camera up in a single spot for one to two hours and snapped images of Silver Spring's nightlife at various intervals. The hidden camera captures the beauty of the city in a single picture and reveals the Downtown area's liveliness when stitched together in a timelapse, showing us something our busy lives and eyes can't see otherwise.

Despite the below freezing temperatures, I captured every aspect of city life, including various views of the iconic ice rink, the busy intersection of Fenton and Ellsworth, a typical dinner at Chipotle and more. The perspectives range from a bird's eye view of the city to that of an observer, from a driver in the streets to a pedestrian on the sidewalk.

None of this innovative, hard work would have been possible without the help of Nick Grossman, who assisted me in filming many of the shots, as well Silver Chips' endless support.

As an additional benefit, I have also included a sneak peek into my next and final timelapse project, "Photographic Journey: Life at Blair." We hope you enjoy it!

This is a fantastic production. Such high quality and interesting choices of movement. I see that the movement in the video syncs very well with the actions taking places.

I am very much interested in how you made this, from programs to compiling and music choices.
