Adele breaks records with comeback single

Adele has reemerged with her new hit single, "Hello", which has been shattering records since its premiere last Friday.

She apologized for her absence in a tweet. "Life happened," she wrote. Back in 2011, Adele was forced to cancel a number of sold-out shows in the United States due to throat problems. She was diagnosed with vocal hemorrhages, or the internal bleeding of the vocal cords. Since then, she has been less active. She also gave birth to her son, Angelo, in 2012 and has been away taking care of her family.

However, her new single still managed to make the Billboard Top 100 chart and has become the best-selling number one single in three years. The singer may have gone on a hiatus since her last single for the last James Bond movie,"Skyfall", in 2012 but she's come back better than ever.

Last Friday, just six days after its release, "Hello" became the second-fastest video to reach 100 million views on YouTube, beating Psy's "Gentleman". Last Sunday, VEVO announced that the music video for "Hello" reached 27.7 million views in a 24-hour period, breaking Taylor Swift's existing record for "Bad Blood" with 20.1 million views.

But Adele's no stranger to popularity. Her last album, "21", was the biggest selling record of the century, selling more than 30 million copies worldwide. "Hello" has also revived the popularity of her first two albums, which appeared in the top 40 this week.

The response to "Hello" has been remarkable. Apparently, it's been well worth the wait for Adele fans, or "daydreamers" as she calls them. Even celebrities are star struck over the singer's song. Actress Lena Dunham tweeted, "Sun is shining because Adele," the day the single was released. Reactions from Blazers are equally positive. "It's really catchy and the beat is really nice. You can tell the song is based on what happened in her life and she wanted to share," freshman Jenny Nguyen said.

Adele's impact on pop culture reaches back to 2008 with her first album, "19". Her style of music is different from most mainstream pop hits. Her albums are of the soul genre, with lyrics describing heartbreak and relationships. She draws from her own experiences to bring raw emotion to her songs. "When people hear her song, they feel some type of way and her songs are so popular. She's different," junior Raquel Pastor said.

According to Blair students, it's Adele's down-to-earth personality that makes her music so popular, even after a three- year hiatus. "She's not like every other singer. That's her real emotion," junior Christina Delgado said. The raw emotion in her songs resonates with people.

For some, the new single brought back memories of her old songs. Adele's strong voice reverberates in "Hello", accompanied by smooth piano chords and a soft drumming. The song conveys strong feelings of loss and regret, which translates in the listener; similar to the feelings and styles featured in past songs. The new song reflects the style Fans like senior Chris Moran reminisced her songs from over 3 years ago. "The song "Hello" by Adele made me think of the old version of Adele and how she brought back that nice singing voice of hers," Moran said. When Adele releases a new song, her absence is soon forgotten.

Even those who are not particularly fans of "Hello" admit that Adele has an authentic personality. "It's not a bad song, but it's not my favorite. Adele's a good person and a good singer, definitely. It's apparent," sophomore Lydia Mohamed said.

Her new album, "25", will come out November 25th. Adele explained that it will focus more on "make-ups", than "break-ups".
