American Idol lacks ideal vocalists

by Shewit Woldu, Page Editor
There was unspoken expectation for American Idol 3 to be bigger and better than its prequels. That expectation has not been met.

Although the dreadful singing kept up with the traditional laughter during Idol tryouts, it was time to hear some amazing voices. But that didn’t happen on Wednesday night.

Even judges were disappointed with the performances. The strong singers from the top 30 that were picked are easy to pull out.

The people who I think will make it to the top seven are…

1. Leah Vladowski
2. Nicole Tieri
3. Erskine Waloott
4. Amy Adams
5. Jesus
6. Noel
7. Katie Webber

They are not necessarily deserving of the title, but they have the strongest voices of the group. However, they do not compare to their Idol predecessors, Kelly and Ruben. From their performances on Wednesday night, my prediction is America won't have as much fun picking their the winner as it has the past. These contestants need to get their act together fast before not only their dreams and aspirations go away, but also the success of American Idol as well.

Amazing how the same show can be viewed so differently by two people. I was impressed by the talent showcased tonight. With the exception of two singers, the vocals were amazing.

This show has plenty of talented singers, I'm not sure what you expected but my expectations were exceeded.

I, too, am amazed how the same show can be viewed so differently by two people. Having watched all three seasons, I feel this year is filled with much stronger vocalists. I also find personalities and showmanship to be much stronger compared to last year. I think this is going to be AI's strongest and best season yet!!!

I've got to disagree. Last night's performances were, for the most part, quite impressive. I remember thinking the same thing last year, about the final 32. The Fox producers did not highlight any strong vocal performances during this show. However, last night we saw that there is strong talent in the field. There were no bad performances and probably 3 or 4 very good ones.

George Trice, a contestant from Season 2, is signed to a record deal. His cd will be releasing in the near future. Keep up with him or even just go to remember who is is...he was defn. overlooked on the show.
