JV girl's soccer ties Churchill

by Diana Frey, Page Editor
The JV girl's soccer team ended their season with a 0-0 double overtime tie against Churchill, making their final record 5-3-3.

Churchill began the half with very concise passing and ball control. Blair's main problem was players not spreading out and teammates not communicating. Many times the ball was kicked back to where it came from which hindered Blairís play. Neither team had very many shots on goal, making the first half slow.

During the second half, Churchill kept possession making Blair's defense work. Captain Karla Berberich and sophomore Elizabeth Burch both deflected near shots on goal, even though for most of the half the ball was just up in the air. Allison Rubin had a quick break to goal but was tripped right before she could shoot. Rubin took the foul shot hitting the top of the goal in a near miss. In the midfield, Delilah Bracamontes dominated setting up numerous plays for the Blazers, but Blair could not capitalize before Churchillís defense shut them down.

Blair goalie Allison Kator played strong the entire game. Kator made countless saves that rescued the game with Churchill's offense on top of her.

Running into over time, the parents looked to be more pumped up than anyone else including players in the freezing stadium. Numerous cheers erupted from the stands starting the aggressive mood for the rest of the game. Both teams came out strong but Churchill pushed forward faster towards goal possessing the ball on their side for most of the 5 minute overtime intervals. Kator stayed strong however and Churchill was not able to score.

The girl's last game ended positively because according to Coach Summer Roark, Churchill was one of the better teams Blair had to play against. "It was a good game. They were a tough team," said Roark. She also believes that the girl's JV season was a success. "It was a great season, they played with so much heart," said Roark earnestly.

Teammate Erica Turner agrees that the season as a whole was rewarding. "It was a winning season and we're happy about it," said Turner
