What are your thoughts on embryonic stem cell research?

"Anything that can save lives is necessary and stem cell technology currently has the potential to be the most effective treatment method for some of the world's deadliest diseases.”
-sophomore Justin Vlasits

"In my opinion, stem cell research should be advanced. I say this as a pro-choice student because some people just have to realize: Embryos are expendable. From a medical standpoint, lives can be saved with the cost of an organism without a mind. Also, if you think about it, a life is lost everytime a women menstruates, so why waste the egg?"
-freshman Daniel Quang

"Embryotic stem cell research should be further developed. It helps many people with serious health problems and there exists a large number of people willing to give up embryos. If abortion becomes legal, then it would be cruel to waste the embryos when other peoples could benfit from them."
-freshman Barbara Hendrick

"Yes, embryotic stem cell research should be further developed. It helps many people with nerve diseases. Most of these people do not have a good quality of life and this research would help improve their lives. Most women have abortions because their child's quality of life would not be very good. If there is a chance that a child could be spared the suffering in its life, it should be done."
-freshman Sara Ramsay

"Embryotic stem cell research should be further developed because it will lead to curing many diseases. By studying stem cells, scientists may be able to learn more about the human body and be able to replace organs such as the heart, brain, liver, etc. Since these cells keep dividing, scientists could keep producing these body parts, so people wouldn't have to donate organs. This could also lead to the cure of cancer and other diseases that have yet to be cured. As for the moral issues, I do not believe that these cells are full human beings. Testing with cells is much better than testing with animals, which is how medicines are tested today. Embyrotic stem cell research could lead to saving many lives in the future, which is worth the cost of researching today."
-freshman Jack Berry
