Silver Chips Online wins Pacemaker

by Alex Mazerov, Page Editor
Silver Chips Online won the 2005 National Student Press Association (NSPA) Online Pacemaker Award at the NSPA National Spring High School Journalism Convention in Seattle on April 9.

Silver Chips Online, one of just three newspapers to win the Pacemaker, won the award for the second straight year. The Pacemaker is the highest award given by the NSPA to high-school publications and has been awarded to the top online newspapers in the country since its inception in 2001. The Online Pacemaker replaced NSPA's "Best of the Net" competition, which was established in 1996.

Online Pacemaker entries were judged during the months of February and March. Pacemaker winners were selected based on design, ease of navigation, writing and editing, graphics and interactivity.

In February, NSPA narrowed down the field of possible winners to seven finalists. In addition to Silver Chips Online, The Black & White from Whitman High School and The Rampage from Rockville High School were finalists.

Silver Chips Print won fourth place in NSPA's "Best of Show" contest for newspapers of 17 or more pages for its Feb. 3 issue. Silver Chips also won the 2004 Newspaper Pacemaker on Nov. 20 at the NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention in Atlanta.

Is anything going on with the frisbee team nowadays? They should have won some sort of championship by now.
