Parents call the event helpful

Blair's annual Back-to-School Night was held at 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 8. University Blvd. was closed near Blair due to a five-vehicle accident before the event began, causing parking problems for attendees.

According to Security Guard T. Taylor, parents were forced to park in the Safeway and Woodmoor parking lots and then walk to the school. "It's kind of hectic as far as the schedule because parents are still arriving late," said Taylor, while parents filed into the building.

Parents did find Back-to-School Night helpful after getting through the traffic. Blair administration estimates that over 700 parents were present at the event; however, an official count is currently unavailable.

Senior parent Jay Goldman said that he comes to the event because it allows him to really understand what is going on at Blair. "It's a really important part of the year for us because it's the best chance for us to learn what happens during the school day," said Goldman. "We usually [go] away very impressed with what we learn."

Freshman parent Annette Joynes said that she attends Back-to-School Night because it gives her the opportunity to establish contacts with her child's teachers. "I've always gone so I can know what's going on with my child," said Joynes.
