More than 50 families raise $595

Due to an advertising error, the PTSA extended their El Golfo fundraiser for an additional evening, to Jan. 26. The event raised $595, more than any previous fundraiser held by other schools at the Silver Spring restaurant.

Between Jan. 25 and 26, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., 25 percent of the bill for any family that mentioned Blair High School was donated to the PTSA by El Golfo. Originally scheduled for Wednesday night, the event was extended due to a miscommunication with InfoFlow. "InfoFlow aired it as being Thursday [evening]," said PTSA Volunteer Coordinator Beth Martin, who organized the event. "I don't want anyone to be blamed for this. It was an easy mistake." El Golfo agreed to extend the fundraiser to Thursday.

According to Martin, more than 50 families showed up for the fundraiser, making this the most successful school fundraiser ever held at El Golfo.

Although this was the first time El Golfo worked with the Blair PTSA, the restaurant has hosted several other local schools. "El Golfo does this for any area school that asks," said Martin. "I think they would do it every week if they were asked. It's really nice of them."

El Golfo invited Blair to repeat the fundraiser sometime during spring.
