Online publication earns award for third consecutive year

Silver Chips Online was one of three winners of the 2006 National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) Online Pacemaker Award. The award was presented at the NSPA National Spring High School Journalism Convention in San Francisco on April 22.

This is the third year that Silver Chips Online has won the Pacemaker award, which the NSPA names its highest and most prestigious honor. Established in 2001, the Online Pacemaker replaced NSPA's Best of the Net competition.

Online Pacemaker entries were judged during the months of February and March. Pacemaker winners were selected based on design, navigation, writing, editing, graphics and interactivity. The Paly Voice and The Feather, publications of Palo Alto, California and Fresno, California, respectively, also received the award.

Silver Chips Online was initially among seven finalists in contention for the award announced in March. Other local area finalists included Annandale High School's online publication, The A-Blast, and Rockville High School's online publication, The Rampage.
