SGA back-to-school barbeque postponed

by Miriam Ragen, Online National News Editor and Food Editor
The back-to-school barbeque scheduled for today has been postponed until Friday, Sept. 8, because of inclement weather. The rescheduled event will take place from 2:15 to 5:30 p.m. on either the softball field or in the SAC.

Despite the initial complications, SGA Spirit Director Saron Yitbarek is enthusiastic about the event. "We are hoping to attract at least 200 people," she said. "We think that by providing different types of music, we will be able to attract different types of people."

Four Blair bands will be playing a variety of music from rock to go-go and reggaeton. Other carnival-like activities will be provided, including football and basketball tosses.

The barbeque is free for all Blair students. Refreshments and live music will be provided. Other food will be available for purchase, and the proceeds will go to the SGA's tutoring program.

If weather conditions are unfavorable on the rescheduled date, the event will be held in the SAC.

  • What about Football? on September 1, 2006 at 8:09 PM
Doesn't seem like a smart idea to have 200+ kids messing around on the already dismal looking football field less than an hour before the first game football game of the season. How will the field be cleared in time, how will the mess be taken care of, how will the teams warm up? Also the newly painted lines will be all messed up.

Did you even consider these possibilities? Seems like a badly planned and ill-coordinated event.

Very original and great idea for a Blair event...Kudos! Hope it turns out very well.

"what about football" has a good point. It's probably not a good idea to use the field right before a game. Using the SAC is probably a better idea anyway, and people could be in the courtyard if they wanted to.

The BBQ WILL NOT be on the football field. We know about the football game. It will either be on the softball field, or in the SAC depending on which we can reserve. Hope to see everyone there!!!
