Newsbrief: PSAT answer sheets recovered, scores distributed

by Kevin Chang, Page Editor
The College Board has recovered, scored and distributed Blair's PSAT answer sheets from the October administration of the test.

The scores from the recovered sheets, which were quarantined in the Hamilton postal facility near Trenton, New Jersey, will be used as the 2001-2002 school year scores for all official matters including National Merit Scholar semifinalist placement, taking precedence over scores from the February makeup test.

Scores from the February test were distributed to students several weeks ago with the understanding that if October scores were found by May 15, the February scores would be invalidated. The College Board recieved the scores on May 15.

Many students experienced significant score changes as a result of the new development, with some reporting losses of up to 25 points. An informal Silver Chips Online poll showed that most students were either relatively unaffected or negatively affected by the change.

Students were notified of the discovery in an announcement near the end of seventh period on Friday, the 17th. The October answer sheets were scored and results were distributed to students on May 30 and 31.

Any questions about this situation or individual scores should be directed to guidance staff. More information about the PSAT/NMSQT can be found online at the website of the College Board, at http://www.collegeboard.com or the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, at http://www.nationalmerit.org.

When did they tell us our March scores would be invalidated?

How do we figure out what our PSAT scores from October were?
  • Kevin Chang on May 18, 2002
Matt, when they decided to give the March re-test, they said it would only count if they didn't get the October scores by May 15.

Jennifer, the October answer sheets will be scored immediately and the scores will be sent out in three or four weeks.

Someone should verify with ETS that it has checked to be sure the October scores were not affected by anthrax-related treatment. As a government employee, my mail has been treated before delivery since the anthrax incidents. The treatment can affect the integrity of documents, leaving them with a burning smell, disintegrating and discoloring the paper, etc.

this article is inaccurate. the answer sheets were found. they have not been scored, so technically the scores have not been found.

Dude, it's about time they found those scores! But you know what that means: the PSAT's we took in February were for naught! AARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!

I think in the summer time kids who's points went down should be able to be given the chance to take it one more time even if they have to pay.

I would just like to say that I am glad the October scores were found and that those are the scores that are going to count. As a student attending another school, I believe it would have been unfair for Blair students to receive another opportunity to retake the PSAT and other schools not have that advantage.
