Visual Arts Center holds art show at Einstein

by Miriam Ragen, Online National News Editor and Food Editor
The Visual Arts Center (VAC) annual art show at Albert Einstein High School opened displaying the work of many Blazers. The show opened Wednesday continues today from 6 to 9 p.m.
VAC attracts high school students from around the county. "Our purpose is to work with the students of Montgomery County who want to make art an important part of their present and future life," VAC director, Michael Piechocinski explained. "Art is first and foremost for these students."

On display is the work of all the different level students. The work of the freshman, sophomores and juniors are scattered across the main hallway while the seniors' work is displayed in the Main Street Gallery. Art pieces by seniors are also for sale to the public.

The Blazers who participate in the arts program at Einstein attend VAC in the morning and regular Blair classes in the afternoon. Some students choose to attend Einstein full-time, as junior Naima Merella did before transferring to Blair in her sophomore year.

Merella, whose concentration is photoshopping bodies together to make an abstract image, says that VAC creates great opportunities for its students. "The show gives people in the area a chance to see the work of students and how good they are. It also gives students a chance to show off," Merella said.

Piechocinski said that he is proud of the accomplishments of seniors and that the class of 2007 has earned over $1 million dollars in scholarship money.
