Seven tips for 07

by Maya Calabrese, Online Managing Editor
Graduation. After four long years of high school, seniors can finally celebrate…by sitting in a room for what seems like another four, long years. The sad truth is that graduation is like the Academy Awards – without the designer dresses, lavish goody bags or George Clooney.

Nevertheless, with graduation just around the corner, senior Blazers are busy preparing, but are forgetting the most important thing: entertainment. Some 900 students are graduating and chances are not one of them will be able to concentrate during the entirety of the ceremony. To help our beloved seniors out, Silver Chips Online has devised a list of distractions that should help the time pass more quickly:

1. Play with school supplies

Gone are the days of late night trips to Staples and hunts for the colored pencils, poster, and glue for that science project due the next day. So with school out, what use do supplies have other than amusement? Take a paper clip and bend it into weird shapes. Or take those binder clips formerly used to hold piles of notes together and battle your neighbor to see who can endure the most pain for the longest period of time.

2. Answer the impossible question

How many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop? Take advantage of a time free from college applications, studying and that oh-so-full social schedule to enlighten yourself.

3. A new staring game

Ever get that eerie feeling your being watched? Test that eerie feeling of being watched by staring at the back of someone's head until they turn around. It may sound creepy, but it will definitely keep you amused. Just be sure to not stare too much or you may be walking across the stage in handcuffs.

4. Repeat a word until it loses its meaning

Repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat… repeat? It's as simple as that.

5. Connect the dots
Turn the classic game into a form of body art. Connect your freckles and see what weird things you can make: elephants, penguins, Paris Hilton…the possibilities are endless.

6. Be remembered…maybe

Every graduate dreams of being remembered. The classic move: flashing the audience. There are probably a few people out there (yes, you. Don't deny it.) who have considered doing it this year. Of course someone will always be completely convinced that they are going to do it, but wimp out at the last second. So have fun thinking about it, and then go get your diploma and stay clothed.

7. Dream of horse poop

It is the infamous ongoing debate: where should Blair graduation be? Sure the time has finally come, but there are bound to be at least three hypersensitive parents out there who wished it were somewhere else. Now that you're there take the time to evaluate first hand the advantages and disadvantages of the Comcast Center. Just remember: if graduation were at the equestrian center, no amount of perfume or cologne would save you from the always-pungent smell of horse poop.

    Re Senior:

Lighten up, it is funny or at least fun. And chances are you'll be using some of them tomorrow or thinking about them.
