2008 Super Bowl Commercials

by Julia Mazerov, Online Entertainment Editor
With the buzz surrounding this year's Super Bowl and its history-making potential, it's no wonder that advertisers were willing to shell out between $2.7 and $3 million for a mere 30 seconds of screen time. This year's lineup featured over 50 commercials, ranging in products from the traditional Budweiser plugs and the ever-present auto insurance company endorsements to the more recent additions of tech gadget and web site ads. But marketers brought nothing new to the 90-something millions of Super Bowl watchers, since nearly all the ads followed classic Super Bowl formulas of celebrity abuse, movie parodies or strange-looking animals. The first quarter commercials looked promising, but things only went downhill from there, and the ads were no match for Manning's exciting fourth quarter performance.
Who was your favorite advertiser during this year's Super Bowl?
  • Bud Light
  • Pepsi

    terrible ratings.

the Fedex pigeon ad was not even included. It was by far one of the funnier and more creative ads displayed. As well your image of the gatorade ad has been tainted for your obvious hate of the Yankees. As well the Charlie Brown Coca-Cola ad was not included in this list despite it being picked as the best ad of the game on various news agencies.

    .....try try again.

    I can't believe it.

    How could it happen?

    I'm speechless.

There's always next year. We'll shut out the other team. GO pats!

I think the FedEx one was the best commercial. I didn't really like the Timberlake one or the Coca-Cola Balloon one. The Corolla ad (where they put a guy in the car with biting badgers) was the most entertaining car commercial I've seen in a while. Also good was the SoBe Thriller lizards.
