Einstein Visual Arts Center show to be held tomorrow and Thursday

by Jenny Williams, Online Weekend Editor
Albert Einstein High School's Visual Arts Center (VAC) program will hold their annual art showcase tomorrow and Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m at Albert Einstein. The event will include pieces ranging from paintings to collages, and nine Blazers' work will be displayed.

The VAC, established 35 years ago, is a magnet visual arts program that "helps kids build strong portfolios to compete for scholarships when applying to university art schools and art programs," says program teacher Jane Walsh.

The event will showcase work by students of all grade levels, and seniors' pieces will be displayed on a separate wall to commemorate their last year. Senior Steven Sugar will display his pieces for the final time as a high school senior. "I'm very happy with my four years of work. It is a big deal because it has a lot of meaning. After a year you finally get to display your art," Sugar said.

Junior Melissa Mergner has completed several types of art in her first year at VAC and looks forward to the opportunity to display her work. "I'm excited because it is my first year in VAC and I know a lot of my pieces will be shown," Mergner said.

The Blazers participating in the show are proud to be a part of such a prolific experience. "The VAC has art that is well beyond the average level of art you would find at a high school art show," Sugar said.

This fact is true of artists and writers: The best are already dead, and the best work has already been done.
