Event part of effort to end violence against women

Amnesty International is holding a write-a-thon on Feb. 18 in an effort to end violence against women. The event is part of an world-wide campaign.

The write-a-thon will include several speakers from the Amnesty International organization and will give students the opportunity to write and sign letters to political figures expressing their discontent with the current abuse of women. Students from Holton Arms, Richard Montgomery and UMCP will also be attending.

The purpose of the event is two-fold, according to club President Jahnavi Bhaskar. "First, we want to spread awareness about recent incidents of worldwide violence about women, and also, we want to give people the idea that they are actually making an impact,” she explained.

The event will be held from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. in rooms 234 and 236. Contact Amnesty International Club members for more details.
