Several students live in close proximity to fire

An apartment fire in Silver Spring early Saturday morning has Blair students apprehensive and law enforcement officials calling for an arson investigation.

The Silver Spring Gazette reported February 18 that the fire, which took place on the 7700 block of Blair Road sent three residents to the hospital for smoke inhalation and resulted in nearly $20,000 worth of damages.

An official for Blair Park Garden Apartments said that much of the damage was caused to the stairwell and that no apartments were destroyed.

Arson task force members were brought in from DC and Prince George's county to investigate and ascertain whether this latest fire is connected to the recent string of arsons in the area.

Freshman Arthur Bruce, who lives in the neighboring building, was awakened by the commotion. "I live in the next apartment," he said. "The sirens woke me up in the middle of the night. It was pretty scary."

This fire came a day before another arson attempt at Sherwood High School. That incident led to over $10,000 in damages.
