Evacuation runs smoothly but without safety coordinator
Blazers participated in the first fire drill of the school year after receiving their IDs during a special homeroom today between periods one and three. This was the first evacuation not monitored by former safety coordinator Mark Curran, who left his job at the end of last year.
According to building services coordinator Jim Funk, the evacuation time was deemed unnecessary for this drill and therefore was not recorded. "The fire drill was more because the students got their IDs and we wanted to let them have an idea of where their emergency locations were," said Funk.
Since Curran accepted a position at the new Poolesville magnet program, there has been no one to oversee the fire drills. Several staff members have been in charge of parts of his job while administrators search for someone to fill the role permanently. "We are trying to find an individual to take on the task," said Funk. "Some have shown interest."
Despite Curran's absence, no glitches occurred during the drill.
