Motivational speaker talks to seniors about college

All seniors were required to attend an assembly yesterday, Feb. 15, that lasted for an hour during second period. During the assembly, a speaker encouraged Blazers to pursue a college degree.

The job search company Monster sent a speaker to the event to promote staying involved during the last few months of high school in order to achieve a more successful college career. This was Blair's fourth annual senior assembly, part of efforts to prevent low second-semester-senior grades, according to administrator Linda Wanner.

During the event, Blazers learned about success rates of college students in acquiring degrees, factors to consider when choosing a college and major, characterstics employers look for and the importance of time management. At the end of the event, students entered into a raffle for a Microsoft Windows XP Tablet computer.

The event was paid for by Monster sponsors PriceWaterCoopers, the National Research Center for College and University Admissions, the U.S. Army, MonsterTrak, FastWeb!, Internet Broadcasting Systems, Inc., Wachovia, ITT Technical Institure and Microsoft.
