Forty-two students were recognized in a ceremony on Sept. 25
On Sept. 25, Blair recognized 42 students as semi-finalists for the National Merit Scholarship. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) awards scholarships to the top 3 percent of 11th grade PSAT testers across the country and recognizes approximately 16,000 students as semi-finalists each year. Maryland's qualifying score to become a semi-finalist by the NMSC this year was 223 , one of the highest in the country and one point higher than last year's qualifying score. Out of all the schools in Maryland, Blair is home to the most semi-finalists.
The students were celebrated in an afternoon reception held in the Student Activities Center. To commemorate their success, Principal Renay Johnson tweeted a picture of the students, captioned, "Congratulations to our 42 National Merit semi-finalists! The most in the state! Excellent work, Blazers!"
