Blair receives award for first time

The Maryland Association of Student Councils (MASC) awarded the Senior High Felix Simon Award for Leadership and Service to Blair's SGA on Thursday, March 29.

To receive the award, schools must submit an application detailing the SGA's participation in national, state, regional and assemblies as well as their council organization, communication with student body and activities.

Blair school president Eric Hysen said this year is the first that Blair has applied for or received the award, and attributes the SGA's success to a solid foundation built up by past school presidents. "I think we've definitely been building up to this for awhile," he said. "This definitely would not have been possible without work done by Sebastian Johnson and Barun Aryal." Johnson was the 2004-2005 school president and Aryal served his term during the 2005-2006 school year.

The MASC also presented the award to Bowie High School in Prince George's County and Montgomery County's Richard Montgomery High School.
