Track team wins first meet of the season

MARCH 29, BLAZER TRACK—

After seven events, both the boy's and girl's track teams were in the lead against Rockville with scores of 40-6 and 30-17 respectively. They were able to hold onto this lead to finish the meet with a win for both teams.

The final score was 77-56 for the girls and an 111-17 blowout for the boys. "I'm very impressed with the boys' team," said head coach Heather Amell. "They're very focused and dedicated." For the next meet, she expects the boys to continue their hard work and the girls to "step it up" to match the performance of the boys, she said.

The victory today is especially welcome for the boy's team, which was 0-4 last year, which combined with the girl's 1-3 record caused the Blair track team to drop to Division IV.

The team was also satisfied with their win today. "All our training paid off today. Our first meet was a success," said junior captain Emanuel Waktola, who placed first in the two-mile and second in the mile.

Freshman David Harris agreed. "I think we did really well," he said. "We worked hard and we came through."

The next meet is April 4 against Northwood and Paint Branch.
