Softball on a winning streak, their record 3-0

Blair beat Walt Whitman High School yesterday, 6-2, in its second home game. A six-run fourth inning guaranteed Blair's win.

Both teams displayed stubborn defense in the first inning. Blair's junior pitcher Emma Simson struck out two of Whitman's players at the top of the first inning. Whitman recoiled in the bottom half of the first. Senior Stephanie Cooney, junior Carly Vieira, and Simson, the first three batters, failed to reach first base.

Whitman scored its first run at the top of the second inning. Senior shortstop Juliana Stevenson made an attempt for Blair's first run in the bottom half of the second, but she was tagged before she reached home.

Blair retaliated in the fourth inning with an unyielding defense. Junior Jen Sindall caught a ground ball hit to the left field, and barrelled the ball across the field into the glove of Sophie Strike.

Offensively, Blair scored six consecutive runs in the fourth inning. The first run is credited to senior Gray Vargas-Regan. Vargas-Regan hit two clutch hits in the bottom of the fourth.

Blair's defense in the remaining innings reamined top notch. Whitman could only muster one more run in the top of the seventh inning.

The current record of the Blair softball team is 3-0. In its next home game on Apr 16, the Blazers will play Quince Orchard at 7:00.
