Montgomery Blair junior Sebastian Johnson was elected Student Member of the Board (SMOB), defeating opponent John F. Kennedy junior Nadia Sicard today, Wednesday, April 27.

Johnson, who served as Blair's SGA president for the 2004-2005 school year, won 78.54 percent of the approximately 76,000 MCPS student votes, according to the MCPS web site. Sicard received 21.46 percent of the vote, and 466 students abstained.

The former SGA president is excited to begin his new role as SMOB. "I'm pleased with the results and look forward to working with the Board and the students of Montgomery County," Johnson said.

Before the April 27 election, Johnson spent two weeks campaigning throughout Montgomery County. "The campaigning definitely paid off. I liked moving around to different schools and talking to the students," Johnson explained.

Johnson will not be celebrating his election, however; his position as SMOB starts immediately. "I have to tape a TV show tomorrow, go over scheduling and go to Rockville to review policy," he noted.
