Paint Branch beats Blazers 59-66

Tuesday, Feb 25 was senior night for the Blair Blazer basketball team. The evening started off smoothly with an opening ceremony honoring parents of Blazer seniors, but the night did not go entirely as planned. Still unable to put together four full quarters of play, the Blazers fell to the Paint Branch Panthers 66-59.

The Blazers played a hard fought game, but essentially lost in the opening quarter, trailing 8-19 after only 8 minutes of play. The Panthers' perimeter and low post defense held the Blazers to 20 points in the entire first half.

The Blazer offense opened up a little in the second half, but Panther guard Reginald Jackson kept silencing the rallying Blazers. Jackson finished with a game high 24 points and 4 three pointers. The only consistent offensive threat for the Blazers was senior David Cheeks who gave the Blazers 17 points of offense, consistent rebounding, and one clutch three that brought he game within reach, before Jackson snatched the game back.

Junior Charles Atakora also had a big second half scoring 12 points all in the last 16 minutes. Although the Blazers lost a hard-fought game, Atakora left the game on a high note, unleashing a crowd pleasing two handed slam. Next week the Blazers venture into the playoffs not sure whether the team who destroyed Whitman will show up or the team that was unable to close out a game tonight. The level of uncertainty is at an all time high.
