DEC. 20, NELSON H. KOBREN MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM–

With final score of 47-29, the junior varsity girls' basketball team fell to the Springbrook Blue Devils after a competitive game.

The Blazers were in the game the first quarter and even led briefly, but they were unable to break Springrook's press and by half-time the Blazers were down 33-17.

Sophomore guard Christina Mullen accredited Blair's defeat to their inability to break the Blue Devils' intense defense. "The press killed us," said Mullen. "We couldn't stop them."

Missed free throws as well as a high number of turnovers also contributed to the Blazers' devastating loss. A number of three-point baskets increased Springbrook's lead substantially as the game wore on.

Coach Karen Andrews attributed the game's lagging pace to the players' fatigue; many were exhausted by the pressures of school and and suffering from a lack of proper nutrition. "We needed more energy out there," she said. "Even the spectators could see we were tired."

The JV girls' next game is at Blake on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 3:30 p.m.
