Achievements in academics, athletics recognized

Approximately 75 students received recognition for their accomplishments in a ceremony in the auditorium on the evening of Wednesday, May 28.

According to U.S. History teacher Patricia Anderson, who coordinated the event, awards and scholarships were given for achievement in academics and in athletics.

Some of the more significant awards given were awarded to seniors Lisa Leung, Jamie Platky and Justin Bonhomme. Leung received the Coca Cola Scholarship, Platky received his appointment to West Point and the Terry Hicks Scholarship and Bonhomme received the Comcast scholarship and the Michelle Renee Wilson scholarship.

Anderson explained that this was the second year of the ceremony in its present form. It originally took place during the daytime and was later eliminated. She took it upon herself to bring it back as an evening event.

According to Anderson, the ceremony is a special occasion to honor those who have made significant accomplishments. "I think it's important that as a community we recognize and celebrate our successes," Anderson said.

Junior Ivy Flores, who received the Outstanding In Media award for her work with InfoFlow, said that being given her award at the ceremony made her feel "happy and surprised."

Members of the Chamber Choir sang at the event. Following the ceremony, the honored students were invited to attend a reception outside the auditorium. The reception was provided by the PTSA.
